My name is Peter Andrew and I am trying to create sculptures that generate green sustainable electricity!
I find that one of the biggest argument against renewable energy systems (e.g. wind turbines, photovoltaics, solar water heaters etc.) often seems to be their appearance. Living in Devon I have seen plenty of opposition for wind turbines as well as for other renewable energy generation systems (such as water turbines). These projects that are essentially for the common good seem to be able to spark huge waves of NIMBYism simply by being proposed! I am of the opinion that if these generators can be made beautiful in some way there would be far lest opposition to their construction (and you'd end up with something nice to look at!).
I'm currently in the process of constructing sculptures that incorporate a dynamo of some kind, eventually I'd like to be able to make and sell these creations as a full time job (or that's the dream anyway).
Here's a picture of a mermaid lamp that I'm currently working on to give you some idea of the kind of work that I try and produce.
